GDF SUEZ Energy UK has signed a third long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with SITA UK. The latest PPA is for electricity produced from a 34 MW energy-from-waste facility which is to be built at Severnside, South Gloucestershire. The PPA will allow GDF SUEZ Energy UK, a dedicated business-to-business energy supplier, to purchase the renewable electricity and Levy Exemption Certificates (LECs) generated by the facility for a period of 15 years, starting in 2016 when the facility is scheduled to open.
The energy-from-waste facility will treat approximately 400,000 tonnes per annum of municipal and commercial waste that would otherwise be destined for landfill. SITA UK will build and operate the facility on behalf of the West London Waste Authority. Steve Riley, Chief Executive and President of GDF SUEZ Energy UK-Europe, said: “This is our third PPA with SITA UK, a sister company within the GDF SUEZ Group. It underlines our shared commitment to sustainable energy development in the UK, as well as the abilities of the GDF SUEZ Group to meet the different needs of UK customers across the energy chain.”
The previous PPAs were for SITA UK’s energy-from-waste projects at Billingham on Teesside (17.6 MW) and at St Dennis in Cornwall, a 16 MW scheme that will also enter operation in 2016.
